Kidding

kid·ding \ˈki-diŋg\ noun : the art of bearing children

We had a big cleaning day at our house yesterday to prepare for company (to which my older daughter whined, "aren't we supposed to rest on the Sabbath?), and I found a few tricks that seemed to keep my kids involved in the cleaning process a little bit longer....

A List - When we make our list of chores that need to be done, I make a special list for the kids so they can pick from 4 or 5 different jobs

Rubber Gloves - One of my children hates getting her hands dirty, so this was a big help for her....the other child just thought the gloves made cleaning more fun!

Magic Eraser - this invention is amazing! If you haven't used one, it's a cross between a sponge and a giant eraser. Get it wet, and it will remove just about any mark from your walls, shoes, doors, appliances (my fridge has never been whiter)....I do think it could potentially damage furniture if used in the wrong way, and reports said that children who scrubbed their face with it actually gave themselves chemical burns, so be careful. The other piece of advice is that after you use the Magic Eraser on walls or other large surfaces, it's a good idea to smooth out the area and remove the residue with a wet rag.

Our kids are 7 and 9, and this worked well for them.....anybody else have tips about getting kids to help around the house?

I give my kids chores everyday of the week and they earn nickles dimes and quarters for the work. If we need the whole house cleaned we pick something specail we can share as a family and spent the day cleaning the plase then the evening enjoyijng the activity or the treat everyone wants.

Speaking of cleaning, you've got to check out this video that Krista shot of her daughter and another child she watches doing some cleaning of their own.

It's the circle of life. Priceless.
